About Willow Park

WHAT IS THE WILLOW PARK HOUSING COOPERATIVE?

Willow Park is a continuing housing cooperative consisting of 200 homes, owned and managed by the members that live in the homes of Willow Park.

WHAT DO THE MONTHLY HOUSING CHARGES COVER?

The monthly housing charges cover the member share of principle, interest, taxes, heat, power, water, maintenance (except re-decorating), normal repairs and replacements, management and parking, as well as grass cutting and snow clearing on common areas.

WHEN WAS WILLOW PARK BUILT?

Willow Park was completed in 1966 and was the first Housing Cooperative of its kind in Canada.

ARE THERE SHARES TO BE PAID WHEN MOVING INTO WILLOW PARK?

Yes, there are shares to be paid, the amount depending on the size of unit.

HOW DOES WILLOW PARK OPERATE?

Willow Park operates like most other cooperatives. Every member has an equal voice and is entitled to one vote, provided that he or she holds the number of shares prescribed by the regulations or bylaws. A board of nine directors is elected by the members at an annual meeting. Normally three directors are elected annually to replace those whose term of office has expired. These directors make policy decisions. A manager is hired by the board, and this manager makes operational decisions within the framework of policies determined by the directors. Members are entitled to challenge the decisions of the directors and the manager in accordance to the bylaws of the cooperative.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF WILLOW PARK COOPERATIVE HOUSING?

The purpose is to provide affordable housing to our members.

PETS: ARE MEMBERS ALLOWED PETS?

Yes. You are, however, limited to the size and number of pets, based on the unit you occupy. Willow Park Members are required to register their pets at the Office, and will be given a tag.
